Is Greenland in the Schengen Area?

No — Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but it is not in the Schengen Area or the EU. Days in Greenland do not count toward your Schengen 90 days, and a Schengen visa is not valid there.

In the Schengen Area: No

In the EU: No

Days count toward 90/180: No

Facts checked 5 October 2026. Entry rules change and differ by passport. Confirm them with the official source linked in each section, or your own government's travel advice, before you travel.

Do days in Greenland count toward the 90/180 rule?

No. The Danish Immigration Service says neither Greenland nor the Faroe Islands is a member of the EU or a party to the Schengen Agreement. Denmark's Schengen membership covers Denmark itself only.

Visiting Greenland

If your passport needs a visa, you need one that is valid for Greenland specifically; a Schengen visa is not enough. Most routes go through Copenhagen or Reykjavík, so you will often need to meet Schengen rules for the connection too. Check with the Danish Immigration Service for your passport.

How EES applies

EES is not used in Greenland. A flight from Copenhagen or Reykjavík to Greenland leaves Schengen, and the flight back is a new Schengen entry recorded by EES.
