Do days in Romania count toward the 90/180 rule?
Yes. Romania joined in two steps: air and sea borders opened on 31 March 2024, and land borders on 1 January 2025. Since then there is no separate Romanian allowance; time in Bucharest uses your Schengen 90.

Entering Romania
Visa-free visitors follow the normal Schengen rules. Romania's borders with Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia are external Schengen borders with full checks.

How EES applies
The Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at every external Schengen border since 10 April 2026. On your first entry it records your passport, fingerprints and a facial image; after that, every entry and exit is logged and your 90/180 days are counted automatically.

- Yes. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, when checks at its internal land borders were lifted. Air and sea borders had already opened on 31 March 2024.
- Do days in Romania count toward my 90 Schengen days?
- Yes. Since 31 March 2024 for air and sea travel, and since 1 January 2025 for every route, days in Romania count toward the 90/180 limit like days in any other Schengen country.
- Does Romania still have its own 90-day allowance?
